Hydrogen from wind Published on Wednesday, 2. April 2014

In Mainz-Hechtsheim, an energy park is to be constructed by 2015 under the project leadership of the Mainz Public Utility Company. The special feature of this intended energy concept: an electrolysis plant with an output of up to 6 megawatts will use excess wind power to produce hydrogen and thus enable the excess energy to be stored. The quantity of hydrogen produced can be used to generate heat, as a fuel or for reconversion to electricity, thereby balancing any fluctuations in the power grid.

The planned system would be the biggest electrolysis system of its kind to date.
